Council Hall Destroyed - Ourani Soldiers Attacked!

What started as an explosion at the Sinari Council Hall turned into a hot battle in the streets of downtown. A mix of Ourani and Watch soldiers responded to the attack on the Council building that the Ourani took over for administration use. The battle that took place was brief but the casualties were high.

The Council Hall itself sustained far too much damage and collapsed. Dozens of Ourani were targeted by assailants from the roofs of nearby buildings, gunfire and crossbow fire alike shooting down officers, those helping the wounded, and most notably the nimodo.

A second attack took place on the airfield, not long after the explosion. More Ourani soldiers were slain and an airship apprehended by the rebels. When the Ourani forces tried to pursue, they found their other airships sabotaged and unable to fly.

Come morning, the death toll was far higher than expected. Almost thirty people were in the council hall when it was destroyed, trapped inside during an evening meeting. Amongst the casualties were several high ranking Ourani officers, including General Ronso and Captain Danes. Some say that Lord Tinathys was supposed to be at the meeting as well, but had been pulled away not long before the attack begin with unexpected business. Speculations on that are varied.

In the chaotic battle outside, almost another seventy Ourani fell, the guerrilla tactics employed against them organized and devastating. The high number of casualties to the Ourani has reduced their numbers by nearly twenty percent in Sinari, quite a decisive blow to the occupying force.

New Arrival

Some sailors said it couldn't be done. Dock workers grumbled that it was insane. A ship, in the middle of winter, trying to navigate to Sinari and the harbour? Yet there it was, a small ship flying the flags of Ourani, coming into sight about midday. The Captain seemed an expert, as the craft navigated past ice floes and into the harbour with relative ease. Those working nearby had no sooner gotten the craft moored when the gangplank fell and heavily armoured guards rushed down to press them back. A few short minutes later, the Captain came over the gangplank, flanked by four guards in resplendent black and red plate - weapons drawn, utterly silent. In their midst was a large man, clothed in robes of shining gold and vermilion, with a few touches of the crimson colours of the Ourani priesthood around the sleeves and neck. His fingers seemed to glisten in the sun, light bouncing off the multitude of rings he wore, and amidst the tightly ringed black curls of hair that fell on his forehead was a large red marking, shaped like the eye of a serpent. The man said not a word, but his expression seemed one of smug impatience as he waited while a group of red-clad priests made their way to the docks. Among them, just back from his visit to the Council Hall, was Intahera-Sergeant Mendrick Zahr. The priests stopped, bowing their heads in reverence as Zahr proceeded forwards, passing a few quiet words to the other man before the party moved forth. No explanation was offered for the disturbance, and any who asked found themselves pushed off by Ourani soldiers.

The Repentant One

As the dawn broke over Trader's Square, and store owners began moving about, setting up for the day's business, a small crowd of red-robed figures lead by one Intahera-Sergeant Mendrick Zahr processed through the area, heads down, chanting litanies to the Ourani Dragon God, Osurak. The group of priests marched to the doors of the Sinari Council Hall where they stopped and fell silent as their leader produced a scroll of parchment, a hammer, and a nail - the paper was tacked up on the door, and once the deed was done, the Intaheras resumed chanting, leaving the way they came. A few curious souls would approach the door to see what the document was, and their reactions would be mixed - some would pray, some shake their heads, and others fall silent, staring for a few moments before being ushered away. The document, with the words "Holy Confession" scrawled at the top in ornate lettering read:

I, the undersigned, confess, with the world as my witness, to Holy Osurak my guilt in the crimes of conspiracy to commit assassination, seditious acts, and blasphemy against His Holy Word. I know full well the gravity of my actions, and realize that I deserve the heaviest of punishments, and it is with a heavy heart and complete repentance that I beg Him for forgiveness. I have seen His mercy, full and glorious, and though I know I do not deserve it, I profess with profoundness my thankfulness for it. I shall hereby swear upon my name, my honour, and my life to neither commit nor tolerate such heinous acts again, and I admonish all those considering such acts, for they are the product of malicious self-interest. I also denounce all those with whom I was involved who have not repented as I have, and denounce any who commits such treasonous acts in the future. I pray that my sins may be absolved, and I will forever guard against them.

The Unhappy Captain

Only a few hours after word got out about the recent arrest of Adina Galen, Frost Watch Captain Calanthar Devregon was seeing exiting the gates into Sinari's harbour, accompanied by prisoner and soldier Bryce Larose. It was not until the next morning that Devregon was seen coming back through the gates, by himself. Soldiers on duty at the gate reported the Captain as appearing injured, with a bandage around his arm and a hand on his side, but that, as is usual for the man, he refused to explain the nature of his injuries. Upon returning to the Frost Watch compound, Captain Devregon shut himself in his office with the instructions that he was not to be disturbed for the remainder of the day. The exact details of his visit are yet unknown, but the length, injuries, and missing escort have lead to rumours that there may have been trouble, and that the Captain may have spent the night in Ourani custody.

Ourani Abductions

Ourani soldiers have apparently changed their tactics of burning property and tossing residents into the Frost Watch jail cells for a few days, according to the rumours. The most recent series of arrests have, as usual, come in the late of the evening, but those arrested are not known to have any connection with the Khova family - the recent victims being one Corthas Sinay, a young soldier in the Watch, and more notably Adina Galen, the young daughter of council member and doctor Abrem Galen, and a constant fixture at the Galen Infirmary. Witnesses recall the arrests having been made by a team of nimodo soldiers lead by a a sinister-looking figure covered in the red markings and robes of the Ourani priesthood. Neither the Ourani nor the Frost Watch have commented on the events, but those present have begun whispering the charges as being sedition and conspiracy.

Freak Weather

Sinari residents were baffled to step outside into an unseasonable warmth a few days ago. Citizens who had lived their entire lives in the frozen city sought answers, murmuring about having never felt such heat in the dead of winter, but even senior Mages' Guild representatives were at a loss for explanation. "Nothing could have predicted the sudden heatwave, and the fact that it disappeared just as quickly" offered one official. The next day, the weather had dropped back to its usual coolness, and the sun was once more obscured by heavy grey clouds dropping snow on the confused town.

Residential Fire

In the middle of the night, there was reported a large pillar of fire in a middle-class neighborhood near The Mermaid's Song. It was windy, and the fire quickly spread to several other homes. Supposedly the fire was started by some Ourani soldiers, partaking in a usual strategy of burning down the home of a citizen they wish to make an example of. This is the first time it's gotten out of control since the attack on the harbor.

The Sinari Harbor Badly Burned by Fireship

Late Tuesday evening an Ashetai scout ship sailed into the harbor, flying her colors with pride. When she failed to slow while docking and seemed to be on a collision course with an Ourani warship, a couple of Ourani mages hastily began casting in hopes of stopping the scout before it rammed the warship. When the first fireball hit the prow the scout ship erupted in flames. Her cargo hold had been stuffed full of greek fire, burning oil, and anything else flammable.

Other ships rushed to flee the harbor as the greek fire spread across the surface of the water, and the wind and current pushed the deadly flames along the northwest end of the harbor.

Ourani Troop Withdrawal

With winter setting in and travel becoming too difficult for everyone except the most skilled ship captains, Lord Tinathys sent the majority of the Ourani troops back north to native soil. This leaves roughly seven to eight hundred soldiers left in Sinari, reducing the number on the streets from day to day. Most of the remaining troops are camped down by the Khova compound, and the only patrols on the street now are those mixed with the Frost Watch, and extra Ourani soldiers on the walls and at the gates.

The midnight curfew has been lifted as well, as a gesture of good will towards the citizens and a chance for them to enjoy their upcoming Founder's Day festival. The requirement that all carried blades be tied off is still heavily monitored.

Two afternoons following the surrender of Sinari, Commander Crillner had the entire Watch assemble. There were Ourani soldiers all over the city by then, so if there was ever a time to pull all patrols, that was it. He stood up on a crate so his voice could carry across the yard.

Sinari Raises the White Flag

Early in the morning, just before dawn, Commander Crillner of the Frost Watch traveled to the wall and ran up the white flag signifying Sinari's surrender to the Ourani. This immediately followed a rushed attack on several transport boats by the Riza as she left town.

The Frost Watch dispatched all soldiers to keep people confined to their homes under a curfew until further notice.

Ourani Arrives to Claim Sinari

It was early in the evening when the first airship flew in. The hull was painted red with a stylized black dragon snaking along the length of the vessel. It made several circuits of the harbor in the thick falling snow, and then the attack came. It was swift and targeted at neutralizing Sinari's defensive tools. The harbor patrol ships were hit with multiple fireballs from mages and sunk, the airship flew by the catapults stationed along the wharf and more magical fire eliminated them. The northwest section of docks was razed and once the civilians fled several Ourani transport ships unloaded dozens of soldiers.

A small group met at the north gate with Captain Devregon, and the Ourani made an offer for Sinari to surrender with no further damage to the city or her people.

An Ourani Fleet of Ships Mustering

Early in the morning a heavily damaged airship flew into Sinari along the disused trade routes out of the north. This was enough to rouse the curiosity and concern of those manning the airfield (as well as revive some of the rumors about the activities in Ourani as well), so once the vessel was landed and secured, all were anticipating news hailed down to the waiting land crew. It wasn't anything they'd wanted to hear: "A fleet is massing in the north! They all fly the red and black!"

Ignari on the brink of civil war

There's been heavy fighting in northern Ignari in the last couple of months. The city-states north of Adeus have been heavily discontent with the demand for tithes from King Garus Draetia, and the recent war breaking out between Ourani and Ashetai has given the dukes just the opportunity they needed to seriously resist the crown.

Armies have been gathering from all the northern states, building along a line south of Tasalian and Caron Nye. Somehow they came to an agreement with the cabrall and sent the violent creatures south towards Adeus and Eldyus to ravage the countryside and soften things up while the armies are mustered.

Thievery in Sinari

Amidst talks of Ourani, the council, and trade affairs, a new concern has been quietly seeping into the conversation of worried townsfolk: That of a large increase in crime. Some talks have even turned to the thoughts of organization among thieves, despite the Sinari Council's blatant objections to the thought that there is a "Thieves' Guild". The Yeti's Head in particular has been at the center of these rumors, and there is even some concern that assassins could be taking refuge in Sinari, which has been the cause of great distress with the recent murder of the council members. The recent actions of the Watch have begun to put peoples' mind at ease again, however - in a sudden turn, arrests have been made at higher rates than any time in recent history, and there is talk of raids on pubs and inns at the center of the "Thieves' Guild" rumors, lead by Captain Devregon himself with the aid of noted corporal Seves Arktinos.

Kidnapper Arrested!

It didn't take long for word to spread that the man responsible for the kidnapping of Lason and Cayla Galen's infant son, Morgan, none other than the Infirmary's own former healer, Bryce Larose, was apprehended recently attempting to enter Sinari. Official reports have Captain Calanthar Devregon present and making the arrest at the gates of Sinari. It is still unknown what the official decision of the Tribunal was, though it is fairly certain that the three members, including the respected Doctor Abrem Galen, delivered a guilty verdict. Sources within the Frost Watch have said that Larose was sentenced to a week further of imprisonment, and a penalty of no more than fifteen years of forced service in the Frost Watch! At this time, none of the the members of Larose's Tribunal (Calanthar Devregon, Abrem Galen, and Lyza Wess'rin) have been reached for comment, so all is speculation as to the truth of his punishment.

A Dishonorable Discharge

Rumors are flying all over town that Sadurean Avinash, bard and son of the late Master Kaden Avinash of the Entertainer's Guild, has been dishonorably discharged from the Frost Watch mere weeks after his father's demise. The prominent thought is that this was a long time coming, but no one can verify for sure the fate of Avinash - Capt. Devregon refuses to talk about it and Cmdr. Crillner has been in meetings all day. As for Sadurean? No one has yet had a chance to talk with the boy, who seems to be laying low.

The Sinari Council

After the murders of nearly all of the guild representatives to the Sinari Council, restoring all positions was a difficult process. A few days following the attacks, some guild leaders had stepped in to make sure that Sinari still had leadership, waiting for their own guilds to organize and complete the voting process for a new representative. In the cases of the Clothier's Guild and the Banker's Guild, the Council members had also been the respective Guild leaders, and so it was taking them longer to sort themselves out.

After another week, though, most of the guilds had elected new representatives and today marked the first meeting of the official council, all stand-ins now replaced by the newly elected replacements. The meeting didn't cover any of the truly important issues facing Sinari, but focused mainly on procedure and confirming that all representatives understood their function upon the council. There were no guests permitted to the proceedings.

A Khova Exodus

It started slowly, a few extra people with a shipment here, a few extra with a diplomatic group there, but a week after the murder of nearly all of Sinari's Council, there was little attempt at hiding the large groups leaving the Khova Compound. Families were bundled away on ships, some were flown to other cities in Ashetai, and yet other groups set out overland. Few groups had the same destination, but they all held one thing in common: they were leaving the compound and they were taking their worldly possessions with them.

Rumors were flying by this point about the reasons the Khova had for leaving their stronghold and home of the past century. A popular sentiment being shared around was that the Khova were the rats and Sinari the ship, and that a smart person would know when to cut their losses. Others maintained that the Khova must have a good reason for what they were doing (and those voices sharing this opinion were typically those who dealt closely with the family).

Sinari Council Murdered!

In the middle of the night Sami Mahrov was unfortunate to discover his father and mother both murdered in their home, when the volunteer Watch guard returned home after an evening shift. While Captain Devregon and Sergeant Emelbur were investigating the scene of the crime, a fire broke out in the home of the Master Mage Rastillian. Realization dawned that both Rastillian and Andrei were both members of the city council, and Commander Crillner sent patrols to check on all council members within Sinari.

By the end of the night it was confirmed that ten of the thirteen council seat holders were murdered by assassins, including Sendera Khova.

Ourani Pirates

The same day as the news of the victory at Ama'til was spreading through Sinari, there was a quieter rumor spreading through, starting at the airfield from the crew of a damaged merchant vessel. Bounty of the Sun had been traveling with her sister ship Sun's Fury along an established route in Ourani when they were set upon by several smaller craft, a design that made the captain think they were pirates. They were hailed to land, but fearing for their lives regardless, they fled instead. Fury was forced down, and the crew can't agree if her propellers had been broken or entangled, or if they'd employed some new weapon against her that caused her to break apart.

The rumor is spreading more than it may well have on its own as other vessels that should have arrived had not yet, the Bounty being the first in some time, and days late as well.

Ama'til freed!

Upon the bright and early morning, the first light touching upon the harbour waters of Sinari, a new ship was arriving. Upon the top of her mast ran two flags, that of her nation of Ashetai, the other of the Lords of Ama'til, the Dianthys family.

Upon finally making birth, an officer of the Ashetai Royal Army barreled down the gang plank, shoving all from his way and running for the port gate where he was delayed only long enough to shout "Ama'til is freed!", grab two of the Army soldiers there and run with all speed for the airfield.

With the main point already spreading like wild fire, it was up to the crew of the Essetia, as it filtered into Sinari and its many drinking establishments to fill in the details.

Stories of Anquiet troops raiding, killing officers, causing chaos. Others of the airships of Ashetai and mages raining fire upon the Ourani, burning their ships to the water line, destroying their only means of escape. More tales come of the heroics of the Army as it descended from nowhere and everywhere upon Ama'til, pouring into the city and slaughtering any who fought for the Ourani cause.

But the common thread is this...Ama'til was freed at cost. The Ourani lost heavily, but the city was freed at last. And once more, a Dianthys was ruling the city, but it was still unclear as to which, something heavily guarded by the Anquiet and the Army that now garrisoned the city.

Ama'til burning?

It was a little after three in the morning when a tramp freighter cam into dock in Sinari, its crew quickly filtering off the ship. It wasn't much longer then that that the rumours started circulating around town.

The ship, the Ignari registerd Bela, had left harbour late in the evening on the high tide. All had been quiet in Ama'til when they had left, till a crewman noticed the city was ablaze once more, great gouts of flame raining from the heavens upon the city and the lights of fires reflecting off low clouds for hours, visible ever after the ship had cleared the headlands and started south.

Whatever is happening in Ama'til, the Captain of the Bela is drinking to the death of the Ourani and their damnable merchant taxes.

Check out the updates to the world map! A whole slew of cities was added for Ignari, and they're already on the wiki as well. There will be more updates in the near future, but hopefully this makes the Ignari lands more realistically populated.

Nimodo Body Found

The frozen body of a nimodo was found this morning on a small side street down by some old warehouses. He showed a deep gash on his left shoulder, and a deep slice to an artery on his neck.

Rumors: A Noble Leaving Town?

It took a day or two for people in the wealthy circles to realize what was going on, but once word began to spread rumors started. People were whispering that Kaden Avinash was selling everything he owned, amassing all his wealth. Speculations were wide and varied. Could the man be liquidating to escape the city? Was an attack coming that the public wasn't informed about? It was no secret that he was related to the airship captain from Ack'end'air and everyone knows of his employment by the Khova family.
